Outpatient care in Minnesota
MINNESOTA
Calling a treatment facility for the first time can bring up a lot of questions. Many people feel overwhelmed by what to expect. At Blue River Behavioral Health, our admissions team is here to help. We listen, answer your questions, and provide advice. There is no pressure, and it is up to you to decide what comes next. We also guide and advise family members concerned about a loved one.
There are two ways to begin. You can call our admissions team or fill out the insurance verification form on our website, and our team will follow up with you. Either way, the first conversation covers what is going on and what kind of help you want. We also talk about how care could fit around your work or family schedule. If you're wondering how to start treatment, that conversation is the whole first move. You don't need a diagnosis or a finished plan to have it.
Before detox or residential care ends, have your current facility coordinate with ours. With your consent, we work with that team, so we will have a clear picture of your needs. You can call us directly with any questions and to verify your insurance benefits. By working with your current facility, we help ensure an easy transition.
Learn moreBlue River Behavioral Health admissions works the same way when a family member or referral source calls first for another adult. The adult still completes the steps that require their own consent. Family members can call with questions about what to expect from each step. We coordinate with hospitals and crisis units.
Learn moreOur outpatient treatment admissions process runs in a fixed order. Your start date depends on how quickly we can move through each step. Timelines will vary. However, we will keep you informed each step of the way until we have a confirmed start date.
Step 1
Pre-certification is your insurer's approval of coverage before treatment begins. A medical necessity review confirms the level of care fits your needs, and we handle both with your insurer. Approval timing depends on your plan.
Step 2
You sign consent for treatment, which confirms you understand the program and agree to begin. Here you also choose whether a parent, partner, or spouse joins your planning in step four, and family involvement is optional.
Step 3
Our team completes a needs assessment and a biopsychosocial assessment, a conversation covering your health, history, and support system. Your answers set your starting level of care, and placement can change later.
Step 4
You and your therapist turn the assessment results into an individualized plan. The plan covers which therapies you use and fits your work or family schedule.
Step 5
A psychiatric provider evaluates you to confirm your diagnosis and decide whether medication belongs in your plan. Medication is never automatic or required. Before prescribing anything, we will review potential side effects and let you decide whether to include them in your care.
Insurance and Coverage
Blue River accepts all insurance plans, including out-of-network benefits. Cost questions keep many adults from calling. We answer those first.
Share your plan details, and our admissions team contacts your insurer. Then we explain what your plan covers in plain language. Nothing you share commits you to anything.
No obligation. We never quote costs before your benefits are checked.
Blue River Behavioral Health admissions start with a conversation about what you're going through. Give us a call today if you are managing substance use, a mental health condition, or both. Your family's questions are welcome too. We'll explain the five steps and check your insurance, and our website verification form works for anyone who would rather start in writing.
Confidential. No obligation.
These answers cover the questions that come up after the steps are clear. If anything is missing here, our admissions team can answer directly.
(612) 614-0964Yes. We admit adults for depression, anxiety, PTSD and trauma, bipolar disorder, OCD, borderline personality disorder, and ADHD with no substance use involved. The same five steps apply, and the psychiatric evaluation in step five confirms your diagnosis.
We admit adults for alcohol, opioids including fentanyl and heroin, stimulants such as cocaine and methamphetamine, benzodiazepines, cannabis, and prescription drug misuse. We also admit adults who use more than one substance. Substance use alongside a mental health condition follows the same five steps.
No. Blue River serves adults 18 and older and does not treat adolescents. A parent can still call about an adult child, and that adult signs their own consent in step two.
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) runs Monday through Friday with about five to six hours of group therapy a day. An intensive outpatient program (IOP) meets three to five days a week for about three hours of group on each day you attend. Outpatient (OP) meets weekly or biweekly, and your needs assessment decides which level fits your week.
No. We share details of your care only with your written consent, except where the law requires it. Your employer is not told unless you approve it.
