Two women talking in a bright room about outpatient treatment options

MINNESOTA

Contact Blue River Behavioral Health

Reaching out is often the hardest part when you have substance use or mental health concerns. Blue River Behavioral Health is here when you have questions about outpatient treatment for substance use, a mental health condition, or both. Our admissions team meets you with a real conversation. The same holds whether you're calling for yourself or for someone you love. Referral sources are welcome too.

How to Reach Us

You do not need an appointment to call. Blue River's team answers questions about levels of care, insurance, and what happens next, even before you decide on anything. The same number covers questions about PHP, IOP, OP, or virtual programming, as well as referral checks from providers.

Send Us a Message

Prefer writing it out first? Fill in the short form below. A member of our team follows up. Every message stays confidential, and nothing you share here becomes part of a medical record unless you move forward with treatment. If you would rather talk it through first, call instead and skip the form.

Insurance and Coverage

We Check Your Coverage Before You Decide

Blue River accepts all insurance plans, including out-of-network benefits. Cost questions keep many adults from calling. We answer those first.

Share your plan details, and our admissions team contacts your insurer. Then we explain what your plan covers in plain language. Nothing you share commits you to anything.

What Happens When You Contact Us

Our admissions coordinator starts by listening to what's going on with you right now. We encourage you to ask about program options, timing, or whatever is on your mind. If you'd rather sort out insurance before anything else, just say so, and we'll start there instead. Either way, calling us is free and doesn't commit you to anything.

If you choose to move forward, here's what comes next:

1

Pre-certification and medical necessity review

Your insurer confirms your coverage before anything begins.

2

Consent for treatment

You decide to move forward, in writing, before any clinical work starts.

3

Needs assessment and biopsychosocial assessment

Your team builds a full picture of your history.

4

Individualized plan

Your therapist uses that picture to build a plan around you.

5

Psychiatric evaluation

We confirm any medication needs, including Medication-Assisted Treatment when it fits your situation.

Each step moves forward only when you say yes. If you ever have any concerns or further questions, let us know. We want you to feel comfortable and have all the information you need.

Who Should Reach Out

Adults 18 and older are welcome to contact us directly for themselves. Family members can also call for someone close to them. We also hear from therapists and case managers looking for an outpatient referral. Hospital staff also reach out when a patient needs a step down from a higher level of care.

You do not need a diagnosis before you call. Some people contact Blue River Behavioral Health with one specific question, like what insurance plans we accept or whether virtual sessions would work better for you. Others just want to know if outpatient care makes sense at all. Either way, you are connected with someone who actually answers.

FAQs About Contacting Blue River Behavioral Health

These are the questions people ask most before their first call or message. If yours is not here, our admissions team can answer it directly.

(612) 614-0964
If I can't talk openly where I am right now, can I ask you to reach me a different way?

Yes. Tell us the safest way to reach you, such as a different phone number, a specific time of day, or email instead of a call. Your admissions coordinator works around what keeps the conversation private for you.

I'm a therapist or case manager referring a client. Is there a faster way to reach you than the general form?

The same phone number and message form work for referrals, and naming yourself as a referral source helps our team prioritize the callback. Include your client's name only with their consent. Otherwise, leave it out, and we will follow up once we hear from them directly.

Will you tell me what my insurance costs before I verify coverage?

We do not quote costs or copays over the phone or in a first message, since every plan works differently. Once we verify your coverage, an admissions coordinator walks you through what your specific plan covers in plain terms, before you decide on anything.

I started the process with another provider and didn't finish. Can I still contact you?

Yes. Contacting us starts a new needs assessment built around your situation now, regardless of what happened with an earlier provider. Share as much or as little about that earlier step as you're comfortable with.

If my spouse or parent contacts you on my behalf, can they get updates about my care later?

Not without your written consent, even though they were the one who first reached out. Federal privacy law protects your information once you become a client, so a spouse, parent, or partner only gets updates if you authorize it yourself.

Should I mention both a substance use and a mental health concern when I contact you?

Yes. Naming both from your first message helps our team point you toward dual diagnosis care right away. You will not need a diagnosis or clinical language, just a plain description of what's going on.
